PDP Governors Say No to Merger Talks, Backs Fubara for 2027

The PDP Governors’ Forum recently met in Ibadan, Oyo State capital, and made significant decisions regarding the party’s direction. The PDP has ruled out merging with other parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, they welcome individuals or groups from other parties to join them in their quest for power and good leadership. The governors expressed alarm over the worsening security situation in Nigeria, particularly in Borno, Katsina, Edo, and Plateau.

They called for a revised national security strategy empowering state governments to form an effective defense line. The forum reiterated its solidarity with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who is facing challenges due to the declaration of a state of emergency in his state. They vowed to stand by him until the end.

The committee will be chaired by Governor Douye Diri, with Governor Dauda Lawal as Vice Chairman and Governor Caleb Mutfwang as Secretary.

The party will hold an early convention in August 2025 in Kano, with Governor Ahmadu Fintiri as Chairman, Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman, and Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary of the National Convention Committee.

The Deputy Secretary will act as National Secretary pending the nomination and ratification of a substantive Secretary from the South East Zone by INEC.
