Bayelsa Governor Ban Hosting Of FCT Minister

Deborah Ogbonda

Bayelsa State Governor Duoye Diri has banned FCT Minister Nyesom Wike from entering the state, citing concerns that Wike’s presence could disrupt the peace.

This decision was announced at a security press conference on March 28, 2025 where Governor Diri specifically mentioned that a certain George Turner had planned to host Wike in the state.

According to Governor Diri, Turner’s actions are threatening the state’s peace, and he warned that the proposed meeting between Turner and Wike should not take place in Bayelsa.
Instead, Diri suggested that Turner could host Wike outside of Bayelsa.

The governor also issued a directive that no public place or school should be used without the state government’s approval.

This move has sparked a mixed reaction from the public, with some supporting the governor’s decision and others questioning its implications for freedom of movement.

With recent happenings in Rivers State as regards the press release by some individuals who served under Governor Sim before the suspension by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, about the relationship of the Governor of Rivers State and Bayelsa, noting their knowledge of every pipeline in both states and how men are stationed to carry out certain directives to sabotage the economy of Nigeria if things didn’t go their way.

It leaves neutrals wondering what sort of emotional politics is being played in Nigeria, where people disobey court orders and ignore constitutional arrangements in favour of cultural and family relativity.
