The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Hon. Uzodinma Nwafor, has introduced a free Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) registration program to support residents pursuing higher education.

Council spokesperson Robinson Oluor announced that the program will benefit both indigenes and non-indigenes living in Etche. He clarified that the initiative will assist students awaiting results and candidates who have earned at least five O-Level credits, including mandatory passes in English and Mathematics.

Eligible candidates must submit their credentials for verification at the council headquarters in Okehi on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. Oluor specified that applicants need to provide a Local Government Identification Letter and educational certificates. He stressed that this step will ensure transparency and fairness in the selection process.

The council will begin the registration process on January 15, 2025, and complete it within two weeks. Emmanuel Nwokogba, the Senior Special Assistant to the Chairman on Special Duties, will supervise the exercise to guarantee a seamless experience for all applicants.

Dr. Nwafor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to breaking educational barriers for Etche youth. He stated, “We are investing in the future of our youth by removing the financial burden of JAMB registration. This initiative will encourage more young people to chase their academic dreams.”

Residents have commended the program, calling it a timely intervention in a community where financial challenges often hinder access to education. Many believe the initiative will empower young people to compete for admission into tertiary institutions across the country.

The council has urged eligible residents to take advantage of the program before the registration window closes. Officials advised interested individuals to visit the council office without delay to complete the process.

With this initiative, Etche Local Government joins other councils in Rivers State that prioritize youth development through education.
