Rivers crisis: Gratitude prevents me from taking actions – Fubara

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has said that the depths of his gratitude to his political Godfather have been the raison d’être he hasn’t thrown caution to the wind when handling the current political crisis.

The governor shared this in response to members of the public rumoring him to be an ungrateful politician on the back of the state crisis that has torn the political class in Rivers in two between the former governor of the state and him.

He spoke while hosting stakeholders of Ikwerre ethnic nationality at the state’s Government House in Port Harcourt including the leadership of Ogbafor Ikwerre Cultural Organisation Worldwide, the Supreme Council of Ikwerre traditional Rulers, and others.

In a statement on Monday, Fubara reiterated that ingratitude would have been difficult to hide. He said: “Fubara is not an ungrateful person. If I were a bad person, I can’t hide a character that is bad for more than one week or two weeks, maybe one year, two years, eight years, or even more than eight years. For 16 years, if I were a bad person, everybody would know.

“But, even your girl child that is in your house that you have given birth to…,  It gets to a stage where your girl child will enter the bathroom and lock the door from behind”

“Even if they forcefully put a feeding bottle in my mouth, if I get filled up, won’t I have to pull it out? So, when people stand outside and say what they have to say, I want you people to ask them to tell you, in their own good conscience, what is that bad thing…, that ungratefulness that this man has ever shown or done. But I leave that one to God, who will judge everybody.”

This came amid the swearing-in of Barrister Emmanuel Frank-Fubara, who was confirmed as a commissioner by the Pro-Fubara and Victor Oko-Jumbo-led assembly on Monday.

The confirmation and swearing-in ceremony was held at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Port Harcourt at about 5 pm.

Giving his charge after the oath-taking ceremony, Governor Fubara defended his recognition of the Pro-Fubara/Oko-Jumbo-led assembly, insisting this it is a lawfully recognized arm.
