Primary and Secondary schools in Rivers State will resume today for the first term 2022/2023 academic session
Students and pupils in public and private schools will return back to school after their long vacation.
In the meantime, the Rivers State Ministry of Education has assured rivers people of its resolve in providing quality education for pupils and students in the state.
The Commissioner of Education in Rivers State Prof Prince Chinedu Mmom said the State Government has provided every educational material needed in the state for the new academic session.
”The Rivers Government via the Ministry of Education has put in place everything that needs to be put in place to ensure a smooth take-off of the new academic session. We’ve tried to look at teachers and staff, and other staff that is due for retirement, we have done the needful and deployed new and fresh blood into the system by transferring those who are retiring from the classroom to the board and allowing younger and fresher energetic people back as principals and teachers in our various schools” he said.
The Education Commissioner in Rivers State further said that the Ministry has redistributed teachers across the state to ensure that schools do not lack teaching personnel.
The Commissioner for Education Rivers State Prof Prince Chinedu Mmom further warned Head Teachers and Principals against collecting illegal fees from students.
He said that any teacher caught in the act will be punished.
He maintained that education is free in Rivers State and warned that anyone that jeopardizes the chances of pupils and students from enjoying free access to education will face the music.
Prof Prince Chinedu Mmom further directed all schools in the state to strictly follow the harmonize academic calendar earlier released by the Ministry of Education.
He threatened that any private or public schools that fail to abide by the directive will forfeit their license.
