A ransom of N300 million have been demanded by the gunmen who kidnapped six persons from University of Abuja staff quarters on Tuesday.
Four lecturers and two children were abducted after gunmen feared to be Fulani badits attacked the quaters.
It was gathered that the assailants reportedly called the mother of one of the abducted boys and demanded N300 million.
A source in the university said, “The kidnappers contacted the woman whose son is with them and allowed her to speak with the boy. They asked for N50 million each for the six persons kidnapped.”
The source further revealed that the University was not yet involved in the negotiation process.
Reports reveal that the gunmen who invaded the staff premesis reportedly came from the east end of the permanent site of the university, close to the mountains.
They were said to have pulled down the fence and attacked houses in the area.
Meanwhile, Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army has said that the nation’s capital is safe.
Speaking on the development, Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Mohammed Usman maintained that a search and rescue operation has been initiated to secure the release of the victims.
According to him, “Abuja is safe, there is no need to panic, we are deploying technology and other resources to protect lives and property. Search and rescue operation is on and very soon the abducted university staff will be rescued.”
