Gunmen attack Ebonyi police station, free prisoners

Gunmen on Monday attacked the 135 police station in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

It was gathered that the criminals stormed the station in the early hours of Monday, shooting sporadically.

Accoding to reports, the suspects freed all the detainees numbering about 30 in Police custody, before proceeding to set the vehicles within the premises of the affected Police Station ablaze.

Confirming the attack, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, said the attack claimed the life of one police officer.

According to her, the damage recorded includes burning one patrol, one exhibit vehicle, and the Police building.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ebonyi State Aliyu Garba had visited the place to ascertain the level of destruction even as he spoke with Traditional Rulers and relevant stakeholders on possible ways to beef up security in the area,” she noted.
