Some women from Umunkenke Family of Omuike in Aluu Community, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have protested at the State Police Command, demanding the immediate Release of their husbands and fathers arrested by men of Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit Aluu.
The aggrieved protesters who were stopped from accessing the State Police command also asked the Commissioner of Police Friday Eboka to prevail on men of the IGP Monitoring team to vacate their property and stop aiding the activities of some land grabbers to grab their farm lands.
In an interview with our correspondent, the protesting women lamented that the IGP Monitoring Unit Aluu has been leading bulldozer operators to damage crops in their farms, as the farm land is the only source of their livelihood.
The Women claimed that the IGP Monitoring Unit has aided the land grabbers to bulldoze all their crops and vegetables planted last season, adding that the actions of the officers will greatly cause them hardship.
They called for the immediate release of Elder Macaulay Amadi, Mr Eric Ekwebelen and others who are being unjustly detained by the IGP Monitoring team over the issue.
They said further that the IGP Monitoring team is intimidating them on the farm with arms, as they constantly chase them away from having access to their farmlands.
The Umunkenke Women stressed that all they are asking is for peace to reign in their community, adding that they do not want to lose their husbands and fathers should crisis arise from the matter.
They appealed to the state government to intervene in the situation, in order to avert an impending crisis in the community.
The Commander of IGP Monitoring Unit Aluu, Alex Udeze, when contacted by our correspondent denied involvement in the land grabbing, stating that he has been out of Port Harcourt while promising to investigate the matter.
Recall that Men of Inspector General of Police led by Alex Udeze have been reportedly fingered in several land grabbing matters in Rivers State recently.
