Mother of four shot dead while cooking in Rivers

A vigilante group popularly known as OSPAC has shot a mother of four dead in Rivers State.

Beatrice Obisike was reportedly shot dead by a member of the vigilante group during a burial ceremony in Rumuosi, Obio/Akpor local Government area of the State last Saturday.

Community sources said the vigilante members who attended the burial ceremony as the deceased, shot sporadically into the air in a bid to announce their presence. However, a stray bullet hit the deceased while she was cooking was confirmed dead at the hospital.

Justice Obisike, husband of the deceased called for justice in the matter.

He queried why members of the vigilante were still using guns despite directives from the Police that they should submit their arms.

It was gathered that members of the vigilante group responsible for the shooting are being detained at the Choba Divisional Police headquarters.

Nnamdi Omoni, the public relations officer of the state police command did not respond to requests for comments at the time of filing this report.
