The National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, in Rivers State has called on the Rivers State Government to set up a youth development agenda in the state.
The Head of Government of SUKUBO SARA-IGBE led NYCN in Rivers State, Barine Yale said this during an event to mark the International Youth Day in Port Harcourt.
Barine Yale said such policy will help galvanize youth activities in Rivers State.
He also asked youths to shun cultism and social vices.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the International Youth Day Organizing Committee, Gospel Nsane asked the State Government to make youth engagement a top priority in Rivers State.
He also asked young people to avoid criminal associations and shun pipeline vandalism and social vices that are inimical to the society.
“We appeal to the Rivers State Government to step up its commitment to youth engagement as the United Nations has today, made youth engagement a top priority of governances all over the world. We are aware that young people are vulnerable, hence we advise that youths must continue to avoid criminal associations, shun cultism, stop pipeline vandalism and other social vices inimical to society, for only then can we be positively engaged for action” he said.
Also speaking, the Coordinator of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Tai Chapter, Kingsley Dimkpa called on the youths to end all forms of restiveness in their communities.
Kingsley Dimkpa said the theme of the International Youth Day which is “Youth Engagement for Global Action” emphasized that the only way the youths can be engaged is by ending restiveness and attaining peaceful disposition through decent engagement and collaboration with the government.
He noted that the International Youth Day gives the youths the opportunity to decide on the active and participatory role young people play in governance in Nigeria and to work effortlessly towards global engagement.
