The Provost Rivers State College of Health Science and Management Technology, Dr Franklin Nlerum, has appealed to the state government for infrastructural development in order to improve the quality of learning in the institution.

Dr Nlerum who made the appeal during an orientation program organised for the newly admitted students on Thursday said the College needs an infrastructural upgrade to enable it to meet the required standard.

The Provost attributed the increase of admission rate of 2018/2019 academic session to upgrading the College status from monotechnic to polytechnic.

“I want to thank Governor Nyesom Wike for upgrading the status of the college which contributed greatly for more students to apply into the institution this year unlike previous years, our students can now go for the National Youth Service Corp programme directly.

“The challenges we now have is infrastructure, we need more classrooms, offices, we need academic and non-academic manpower that will help us to manage and train the high population of new intake”

He urged the students to take both their academic studies and the entrepreneur training serious, adding that the entrepreneurship skill will help to empower them economically, and also enable them to have multiple streams of income in the future.

On his part, Students Union President of the College, Comrade Rosary Minini-Braide, advised the students against cultism and every form of social vices that may sabotage their academics.

He urged them to be participatory in all they do, be acquainted with the environment and ensure to keep the College rules.
