The Kalabari National college old students association has called on the Rivers State government to prioritize boarding system of education in the state.
The interim national president of Kalabari National College old Students Association Navy captain TAMS BARANGO rtd stated this during a one-day interactive session with students of the institution in Buguma.
Navy captain TAMS BARANGO rtd said bringing back the boarding system in Rivers State will breed good intellectuals.
He stated that students are more disciplined and focused when they are in the boarding school, noting that teachers and school administrators spend more time with the students when they are under their care.
“We are even designing a 3-D model which we are going present to the government to make it a boarding school. We are boarding before and discipline was effected but now you finish with the child at 2 pm, he goes, he sees you again by 8 am, what the child does with the remaining 18 hours you do not know” he stated.
He also appealed to the State Government to fund education and also asked the Ministry of Education to covert most day schools to boarding for effective management.
Tams Barango noted that education should not be left in the hands of the government alone, stating that corporate organizations and Alumni Associations have a big role to play in education development.
He, however, advised the students to focus on their studies and shun cultism and social vices.
Meanwhile, some students of Kalabari National college thanked the old students for the gesture
