The Rivers State commissioner of Education, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, has called on all public and private schools in the state to resume tomorrow the 23rd of April 2019.
The commissioner a statement said ” I expect that there will be compliance, because inspectorate unit directors of the ministry will be out in the field tomorrow the 23rd of of April to ensure that all schools both public and private schools comply”
Also, reviewing the four years strides of the administration of the state governor, Barr. E. N Wike and the state ministry of education, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja said ” without gain saying, the Wike’s administration has ensured that teachers in public schools are committed to their duties now and are more disciplined”
Also, he said that the state owned public schools have more qualified teachers than in private schools. He said ” for you to be a teacher in any public school, you must be grounded in education. It is not just by having a degree ”
The commissioner of education also numerated the renovation and rehabilitation of three hundred (300) schools both primaries, junior and senior secondary schools in the state (in all of the local government areas of the state). He said this renovation were done in phases. He promised that those schools that were missed out, the state government will start another renovation in those areas in two weeks.
He also said, the governor Wike led administration through the ministry of education in partnership with the British council engaged in the training of teachers in the state to enhance the educational standards of pupils and students in the state.
Also, the commissioner said that “the training of teachers was also geared towards ensuring that the Rivers State ministry education delivers quality services and upgrade brain infrastructure in state”
Continuing, the commissioner said ” I also wish to say to us that, in the four years under review we have automated the ministry of education, that is to say that every transaction under the ministry is expected to be done electronically. Those who apply for school approvals and others are done electronically ”
He also encouraged parents and guardians to ensure they register their eligible child(ren) and wards for junior WAEC come September this year.
The commissioner explained that any child that does not sit for the junior WAEC exams will not be admitted into senior secondary one by any school (both public and private) in the state.
He said that this is to adhere strictly to the National Policy of Education.
He said that that policy intends to ensure that every child has the certificate for the completion of the first six-three.
He said ” don’t forget that the federal government has scrapped first school leaving certificate. The Basic Education Certificate replaced the first school leaving certificate”
“Therefore, any child who do not have this certificate will not be admitted into senior secondary schools in the state”
The commissioner also warned school heads not to admit any child without this certificate into senior secondary, he said any principal( either public or government school) that fails to heed to this instruction will be sanctioned.
The commissioner also advised, that those who had sat for the exams but do not have the certificate and are now in the university today, should go to their secondary schools or the ministry of education to collect their certificates. He said that their certificates is readily available.
He said that one of the goals/ objectives of the reelected governor, governor Wike is to train and retrain teachers in the state to enhance ” brain infrastructural development. This is to ensure we have quality teachers that can compete anywhere in the world. Teachers that will aid Rivers State in stepping up from 4th position in nation’s WAEC assessment position to a better position”
