A total of 3000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Sunday, decamped to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The decamped members were led by a former Commissioner of Commerce and Industry, Bright Jacob; Former House of Assembly Member, Nnamdirim Ihute; a two-time chairman of Oyigbo LGA, Ibe Alex; a Ward 2 PDP Chairman and their supporters.
Earlier on Friday, a house of assembly member representing Ahoada-East Constituency 1, Hon. Martins Mannah, also decamped to the APC.
Hon. Mannah who had earlier in May, called for the resignation of the house of assembly’s speaker, stated among other things that he chose to leave the PDP due to the fact that the assembly lacks autonomy.
While receiving the new members, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree, the Rivers State chairman of the party, commended the leadership of the party in Oyigbo for working assiduously hard to ensure that the party’s structure is not eroded in the area.
The party chairman stated that the party’s number one mission in the state is to ensure that it produces an occupant in Brick House come 2019.
He equally thanked the new members of the party for their timely understanding and for finding the party worthy, adding that the APC is a party for all where no one will be marginalized or intimidated.
On his part, the deputy gubernatorial candidate of the party during the 2015 general election, Honourable Asita, said that for such a number to decamp into the party’s folds, shows that the party is on course to eradicate the footprints of Governor Nyesom Wike in Rivers State.
He urged them to remain steadfast, saying that the battle ahead is a tough one but the party will come out victorious in the end.
