The Ijaw ethnic nationality have re-echoed their demand for fairness and equity in the Nigerian state, insisting that fiscal federalism is the enduring solution to the myriad of problems plaguing the nation.
Speaking in Warri at the 47th birthday anniversary celebration for an ex-militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo, Chief Mike Lolibo who gave the lecture said Tompolo should be seen as the modern liberator of the Niger Delta
He dismissed the charges slammed against him as political, demanding that the federal government drop them for peace to reign in the Nige Delta region. “ All the cases against Tompolo are political. They must drop all the political charges against him”, he said.
Comrade Rosemary Bramaidah who also spoke said it was unfortunate that the region was marginalized, calling on Ijaws not to relent in their struggle for true federalism. She lauded Tompolo, describing him as the icon of the Niger Delta struggle.
Hundreds of Ijaw youths thronged the venue for the birthday anniversary to celebrate the ex-militant leader who has been in hiding since the federal government brought legal charges against him in court.
