As activities leading up to the local government elections in Rivers state heats up especially with political parties carrying out processes to select councillorship and chairmanship candidates for the different wards and L.G.A, one interesting character is lady Ibinabo Fiberisima who is interested in becoming the chairmanship candidate of Okrika Local Government Area under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP.
Born January 13,1973, 45 year old Ibinabo Fiberisima is an actress, ex beauty queen and event manager. She is as also a former president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria.
Ibinabo Fiberisima has enjoyed a wonderful modelling and acting career over the years until her ordeal started in 2009.
Near Prison Experience: In 2009, Ibinabo was charged for manslaughter and reckless driving after she accidentally killed a certain Giwa Suraj in 2006. On March 16, 2016, Ibinabo was sacked as President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria and sentenced to a 5-year jail term by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos. She was however granted bail in the sum of ₦2 million and two sureties in like sum on April 7, 2016 by a Court of Appeal in Lagos pending the determination of her appeal at the Supreme Court.
Chairmanship Aspiration: 2 years after her jail term was overturned by the court of Appeal, Ibinabo Fiberisima has decided to forge a new path for herself by running for the position of Chairman of Okrika Local Government Area, taking advantage of Governor Wike’s directive that Rivers women should seek elective positions in the local government elections by making the nomination form free for women.
After being successfully screened on Wednesday/Thursday by the PDP chairmanship screening committee, Ibinabo Fiberisima faces competition from the following aspirants; Chief Philemon Iwoloma Kingoli, Hon Tamuno-Opubo Ngeri Rowland, Hon Alfred Bamson, and Hon Akuro Tobin, and will be hoping that the ward delegates from her Local Government Area find her worthy of flying the party’s flag at the Polls.
Getting the chairmanship ticket for Okrika Local Government Area will mark a great turn around in Ibinabo Fiberisima’s life, as barely two years ago she was on the verge of facing long prison time, but now finds herself on the verge of being the Chairman of one of Rivers State’s largest oil producing local Government.
