Students foil abduction of colleague in Rivers varsity

Students of the Rivers State University, RSU, at the weekend, foiled the attempted abduction of their colleague by a shuttle driver operating in and out of the campus.

It was gathered that the shuttle driver together with others within the school environment tried to forcefully abduct the female student before she raised an alarm which attracted other students leading to her rescue.

It was gathered some of perpetrators of the failed abduction were arrested, the rest took to their heels.

The failed abduction heightened tension on campus, sparking fears of a face-off between the students and shuttle drivers before school security and other security agencies waded in and averted a breakdown of law and order.

Meanwhile, the Centre for Basic Rights Protection And Accountability Campaign has called on the Management of the University to synergies with the Police to unravel the circumstance that led to the attempted kidnap of a female student of the institution by the shuttle driver and some persons in the school environment over the weekend.

The centre in a statement by Prince Wiro said that the Management of RSU must do all within the confines of the law in collaboration with the Police to ensure the perpetrators are brought to book.

“The Management of the institution owe it a duty to protect live and property on campus and must put adequate measures in place to guarantee optimum security at all time on campus.

” We commend the Students of the University for their peaceful disposition and maturity in the face of obvious provocation .We equally call for the immediate profiling of all shuttle drivers in RSU with a view to ascertaining the identity and antecedent of persons involved in the business”
