ROAD CONSTRUCTION: RIVERS COMMUNITY RESISTS DEMOLITION OF SHRINE, DEMANDS COMPENSATION.

Ongoing road construction in Abua/ Odua Local Government Area in Rivers State, might suffer huge setback if the state government is unable to meet the compensation demands of the community.

Africa Update gathered that members of the community are currently requesting that the state government pay for the relocation of a shrine that “mysteriously” appeared by the side of the road.

Expressing dismay at the appearance of the shrine, Commissioner for Works, Dumnamene Deekor, said it was worrisome that efforts to construct a major road that would link Degema/ Abua/Imoh communities , are being sabotaged.

He stated that the shrine which was not at its current location was allegedly erected to extort money from the state government and urged citizens of the area to cooperate to ensure early completion of the massive project.
