Rivers United maintained its fifth position on the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL after a two-nil victory over Ifeanyi Ubah at the Adokiye Amaesimaka, Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Goals from Lookman Binuyo and Sunday Adetunji in the 13th and 33rd minutes respectively gave the ”Pride of Rivers” the three maximum points to continue their push for a continental ticket.

The team is currently in the 5th position on the NPFL table with 59 points from 35 games.

The next stop for Rivers United is a week-36 game of the NPFL on Wednesday and the Aiteo Cup semi-final game against Bayelsa United.

Both games will take place in Lagos.

Meanwhile, Rivers United’s Technical Adviser Stanley Eguma was delighted to hear the full-time whistle on Sunday evening.

The “Pride of Rivers” gaffer wore a smile as his side continued their quest to land a continental slot, despite the efforts of a resolute FC Ifeanyi Ubah side.

Eguma while speaking to newsmen after the victory said the congested fixtures are having a toll on the players.

”Yeah, I think that is the fixtures, we have lamented on that fixtures right from the beginning. And as you can see, it’s having a big toll on the team. We don’t have any option now other than to respond to the fixtures.

”My appeal is to the management of the team to fly the team to Lagos because travelling by road to play MFM on Wednesday will be counter-productive and we’re also playing on Friday. I am appealing to the management of the team to fly the team to Lagos to ease up the fatigue to enable us to play a good game on Wednesday and the game on Friday before coming back to play another one on Sunday” he said.
