As Nigeria joins the Islamic world to commemorate this year’s Eid al-Adha, the leader of Muslims in Rivers State, Alhaji Nasir Uhor has called for an end to religious killings in the country.

Eid al-Adha is the second and biggest of the two main holidays celebrated in Islam.

It honours the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah’s command.

Uhor who is the state Islamic Leader and Vice President-General, Rivers State Council for Islamic Affairs told our correspondent that the significance of Eid al-Adha which teaches love and faith is enough to end religious killings in the country.

“We are not happy when we hear killings for religious reasons. It shows that the significance of Eid al-Adha which preaches love and faith has not been part of our way of life.

“The death of Deborah Samuel who was lynched in Sokoto State over alleged blasphemy and the gruesome killing of Fatima and her children in Anambra State for no reason and several other religious killings should make all Nigerians do what will end such wasting of innocent lives.

“Nobody will kill his or her beloved. And that is the kind of character the lesson of Eid al-Adha wants us to have.”

He also urged all Muslims to have faith in Allah despite the persecutions and difficulties they are experiencing in any part of the country where they are, adding that Allah is always faithful to protect and provide for them.
