Farmers across the country have accused politicians at the federal level of diverting funds meant for the nation’s agric sector.

The farmers said the diversion of the budget allocation meant for agriculture by politicians is the reason the nation’s agric sector is not growing.

The National President, Potato Farmers Association of Nigeria, Daniel Okafor who revealed this in a chat with our correspondent said, “politicians don’t want our input in the nation’s agric budget because they don’t want to use the budget allocation judiciously.

“Even when we raise alarm on diversion of agric funds by federal politicians, they will in turn blackmail us and make us look stupid before everyone.

“The truth is that politicians don’t want this country to advance in agriculture. They only want this country to rely on food importation.

“But if others will relent in their efforts to stop politicians from diverting agric funds, we will continue to fight against corruption in the agric sector, no matter the blackmails we get from politicians.”

Okafor also hinted that mass campaign against corruption in the agric sector is on the way, noting that farmers’ aim is to prove to the corrupt politicians that this country belongs to farmers too.
