While #ENDSARS protests are still ongoing in different parts of the country, some of the men of the disbanded unit of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) are still out there on the street of Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, harassing and extorting unassuming citizens.

Recall that on Sunday, the Inspector General of police dissolved the unit for its extrajudicial activities which include harassment, extortion, and killing of innocent youths for unprovocative reasons.

The question now is, why are these men still on the streets of Port Harcourt harassing residents of the city.

On Wednesday, at Garrison Junction in Port Harcourt, a man was seen in a viral video lamenting how he was extorted and his phone was collected by SARS operatives.

According to the man, his phone and the sum of 35,000 naira was taken from him.

In his words, “am I a thief? Why are they harassing me? At the moment, what I need now is my money and my phone. I was injured by them. I will go to any length to retrieve my money and my phone.”

With reports of the protests getting bigger even after the IGP’s speeches, it is obvious that the people have lost faith in the government and are not ready to back down until there are visible changes as it concerns their #fiveoffive demands.
