Uzodinma to rename Imo State University after late Abba Kyari

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, on Monday, announced plans to rename Imo State University to Abba Kyari University in honour of the late Chief of Staff to the President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari.

Uzodinma disclosed this when the Vice Chancellor of the University, Adaobi Obasi, led management of the state-owned university to pay him a visit at Government House, Owerri.

According to a statement from the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwuike Nwachuku, Uzodinma said Mr Kyari, who died on Saturday from covid-19 related complications played a pivotal role in the liberation of Imo State, adding that no gesture is too big for a man who died as a patriot.

The governor also said that consultations are underway with relevant stakeholders both in the education sector and in the state to critically look at the plan to rename the university and take a decision.

The governor who urged the management staff of IMSU to live up to expectation reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing quality education in the state.

He noted that Imo State University as the epicenter cannot be left behind.

The vice chancellor commended the governor for a job well done so far.

She also called for total support to the governor to enable him to succeed.
