Rumuosi youths denounce cultism

Scores of youths from Rumuosi community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area denounced their membership of different cult groups.

The youths made the denouncement during a security meeting called by the Paramount Ruler of Rumuosi, Eze John Owhortee to chart a new framework to restore peace and security in the community. The former cultists were then made to sign a peace accord.

They told newsmen that they decided to denounce their membership to ensure peace in Rumuosi community.

They said idleness was one of the reasons they embraced cultism.

Speaking at the meeting, the Paramount Ruler of Rumuosi community, Eze John Owhortee expressed happiness over the decision of the former cultists to embrace peace.

Eze Owhortee said the community will do all it can to ensure they do not rescind their decision.

On his part, CDC Chairman of Rumuosi Community Brown Wali says residents of the community can now sleep with their two eyes closed. He said the decision of the former cult leader to denounce cultism will also attract more investors to the area.

Our correspondent reports that the security meeting was attended by chiefs, stakeholders, security personnel and paramilitary groups in the area.

Can cultists truly denounce cultism and will that mark an end to crimes, killings, kidnapping and insecurity in communities?.
