The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria ACPN has attributed the failure of the National Health Insurance Scheme in Nigeria to the poor access to quality health care in the country.

The chairman of the Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria, ACPN, Rivers State Chapter, Pharm Donatus Ijezie stated this during an awareness campaign to celebrate the World Health Day in Port Harcourt.

The World Health Day is celebrated every year by the United Nations to create awareness for specific health theme and to highlight a priority area of concern for the World Health Organization.

The Chairman of the association during the programme also blamed the poor coercion among medical professionals in Nigeria as factors militating against the success of the National Health Insurance Scheme.

“Actually for National Health Insurance Scheme is a failure in Nigeria because of our government factor and also due to the poor attitude of Nigerians towards national policies. National Health Insurance Scheme would have been one of the best things that would have happened to us health wise because that is the area all the medical health team would have done their work perfectly well. But because everybody in Nigeria is chasing money and everybody wants to do other peoples’ work the scheme has suffered so much in Nigeria” he said.

DONATUS IJEZIE also advised Nigerians to live a healthy life and avoid drug abuse and poor hygiene.

He said Nigerians should exercise daily or engage in a physical walk to boost healthy living.

The ACPN Chairman noted that Nigerians should undergo regular medical check-ups, stating that constant medical check-up reduces the risk of sudden deaths.

Our correspondent reports that the theme of 2019 World Health Day is Universal Health Coverage: everyone, everywhere.
