Police arrest two for alleged gunrunning in Bayelsa, recover pistol, N2m

The Bayelsa State Police Command says it has apprehended two suspects for allegedly dealing in the sale and purchase of guns and ammunition in the state.

It was gathered that the suspects, identified as Seibo Dokubo and Boma Daniel, were nabbed at a brothel in Ayama, near Yenagoa while allegedly trying “to procure AK-47 rifles for kidnap purposes.”

A statement by the spokesperson for the command, Asinim Butswat, said items recovered from them as one Brownie pistol loaded with 8.9mm ammunition, three expended 12.7mm ammunition, the sum of N2m, and a vehicle without a number plate suspected to have been stolen.

The statement read, “Operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit, Bayelsa State Command, while acting on a tip-off on May 12, 2022 at about 1750 hours, burst a gun-running gang at a Brothel, at Ayama, Yenagoa Local Government Area.

“The suspects, one Seibo Dokubo ‘m’ 32 years, a native of Degema, Rivers State, and one Boma Daniel ‘m’ 45 years a native of Patani, Delta State, wanted to procure AK-47 Rifles for kidnap purposes.

“One Brownie pistol loaded with eight .9mm ammunition, three 12.7mm expended ammunition, sum of two million naira cash, and a suspected stolen Toyota Hilux 2021 model without registration number, were recovered from the suspects.

“The suspects are cooperating with the police in their investigation and will be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.”
