The Deputy Director and Head of voter’s registration, Rivers state EDWIN ENABOR has labelled some of the people queuing to register, as fraudsters looking for opportunity to cause mayhem.
He said this after some electorates at the Port Harcourt office in PHALGA lamented over inability to register following the suspension of the continuous voter’s registration exercise.
“How can somebody queue on the line for just change of name or go ahead to re-register for just omission of name.”
EDWIN ENABOR also debunked that no staff of INEC is collecting tip to give out the Permanent Voters cards to electorates.
“No INEC staff will put their job on the line for just N1000 naira because we have well trained staff, these people complaining are just trying to bring down the name of INEC.”
He said those that are unable to register before Friday would have to wait until after the general elections in 2019.
Meanwhile, some of the electorates who spoke to correspondent RACHEAL RAMSON said for the past two weeks they were unable to register.
They said the process is cumbersome and called on INEC to open more registration centres.
“for two weeks now we have been coming here no proper arrangements for us at all they said.
The Federal government and INEC needs to act urgently or else some people will end up not exercising their franchise come 2019 according to Mr Abel.
He added that it is only Rivers state that extra units were not created to make sure that everyone registers.
You will recall that on the 15th of August the Independent National Electoral commission extended the earlier date of 17th August to the 31st.
