The Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has reacted to comments against him following his recent visit to Rivers State.
Obi visited Rivers State on Thursday at the invitation of Governor Nyesom Wike to commission the Nkpolu Oroworukwo flyover in Port Harcourt.
However, during the visit, some supporters of the party in the state had alleged that the presidential candidate had refused to visit Mrs Beatrice Itubo, the Party’s gubernatorial candidate, who is reportedly sick.
The aggrieved supporters also accused Obi of abandoning the Rivers State guber candidate of their party, to back Sim Fubara of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In response, the former Anambra governor apologised for the misconception, noting that he was unaware of Mrs. Itubo’s sickness.
In a tweet on his verified Twitter handle on Saturday, Obi said, “My sincere apologies to Mrs. Beatrice Itubo, the Labour Party candidate in Rivers State, for an inadvertent oversight. When I visited Port Harcourt a few days back, I was not informed or aware of her sickness.
“No one mentioned that our candidate was sick; otherwise, I would have visited her before or after the event. I had committed to passing through the campaign office no matter how late, and that I did at about 6.30 pm. My dear sister, I sincerely wish you a very quick recovery and reassure you of our good working relationship. May God Almighty bless you always.”
