Rivers Police command parades four police officers over alleged extortion

The Commissioner of Police, Rivers State, CP Emeka Nwonyi, has paraded four Policemen attached to a neighboring State Command over alleged extortion of six point five million (6,500,000) naira, in Port Harcourt.

The four officers were said to have extorted the money from three boys after tagging them to be internet fraudsters.

CP Nwonyi said the Nigeria Police, the Inspector General of Police, and the Commissioner of Police detest any criminal act by officers while urging the public not to generalize on the crime committed by a Police Officer.

Briefing journalists on more recoveries, the Commissioner of Police said in a follow-up to the release of a kidnapped victim, one Henry Thomas was arrested on August 20, 2023, during an investigation The suspect led operatives to Akinnima community in Ahoada West where two pump action guns, six cartridges were recovered from the suspect.

He also revealed that in a follow-up to the death of another cultist and kidnapper, one Temple Woko was arrested in connection to the case at Rumuodogo.

He noted that two suspects were fatally wounded while one AK 47 riffle and 6 magazines were recovered.

He disclosed further that on 30 August 2023, detectives of the Command received a distress call that a motorcycle had been snatched from the rider around Choba, and the Police quickly mobilized and tracked the Yahama motorcycle to the Abuja waterfront where one Gift was arrested on 31 August 2023.
