The Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps NYSC, Rivers State, Mr. Moses Oleghe has commended Corps Member Rabiu Quadri Mayokun, RV/23C/4208 serving at Afmuc International Missionary School, Port Harcourt for his giant strides in impacting positively on the lives of school children.

The coordinator gave the commendation when he inaugurated the corps member’s personal community development projects at Community Primary School, Rumuolumeni, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the State.

Oleghe who was represented by the Assistant Director Community Development Service (CDS), Mr. Barnax Uloneme, praised Mayokun for giving school children access to education in a challenging economy where many are dropping out from school due to economic challenges.

Speaking further, he hailed the Corps Member for, “being a stand out personality in fulfilling NYSC Scheme’s charge to Corps Members to go out into the host communities and be agents of positive change through the initiation and execution of viable and quality CDS projects.”

The projects inaugurated at the event included, the purchase and distribution of 31 school bags to the school children, 6 lunch bags, 6 packs of crayon, 26 school uniforms, 26 school sports wear, 32 footwears, 100 pieces of erasers, 100 pieces of pen, 120 pieces of pencils, 120 pairs of socks and 362 notebooks.

Others were the complete registration of 26 Out of School Children (OOSC) back into formal education with a breakdown of 6 in primary school, 16 in junior secondary school and 4 in senior secondary school.

The corps member also established the NYSC SDGs Club at his place of primary assignment and organized extramural adult education classes during weekends to promote adult literacy.

In his remark, Mayokun explained that the projects were driven by his passion to reduce illiteracy, foster independence in the younger generation, curb socio-economic dependency and lower crime rate that often arise from idleness.

The event attracted dignitaries including NYSC staff members, staff and students of Community Primary School, Rumuolumeni, parents and community stakeholders.
