The Egi Divisional Police Headquarters in Obite, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State, has detained a man identified as Honest, reportedly in his late 20s, for abducting and allegedly ganged raped a 14-year-old girl from dusk to dawn.

Honest is accused of conspiring with his younger brother identified as Okwukwe, to commit the crime in Erima community, within the LGA.

A source from the community told our Correspondent that the siblings abducted the teenage girl evening of Sunday, 25 September 2024, while she was walking on a lonely path on her way to her brother’s house in the community.

In an interview, the 2nd in Command of ONELGA Security Planning and Advisory Committee ( OSPAC), Egi Command, Onuigba Chinonye Aboy, from the Erima community disclosed that they got information about the missing girl during their patrol.

“I was in patrol with some of my boys when we met one woman crying that since Sunday evening 25 September 2024, her 14-year-old girl had been missing till that Monday afternoon 26 September 2024.

“I asked the woman which area, and she directed us. We now began an investigation, and through the help of some good neighbors, we found out where the little girl was.

“When we went into the place, we saw two brothers, senior and junior abusing the little girl of 14 year old. In the process of trying to arrest them, the senior one resisted arrest trying to fight us.

“As we were dragging with him, the junior one ran away, while we apprehended the senior one and handed him over to Egi Police Division in Obite on Monday evening.

“My advice to other criminals that would want to get involved in the same crime, is that we will also send them same place we have sent this person if they do not want to change.

“If they change, the community will contain us and them, but if they do not want to change this community and Egi entirely will not contain OSPAC and the criminals”.

Meanwhile, the Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command SP Grace Iringe Koko, when contacted confirmed the incident.

She disclosed that one of the suspects had been arrested while the Commissioner of Police Rivers State, CP Olatunji Disu directed that the suspect as well as the case file be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) Port Harcourt.

According to her, CP Disu has mandated the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to ensure the fleeing suspect is arrested, adding that all perpetrators of crime must face the consequences of their actions.

In the meantime, evening of Saturday, 31 August 2024, our correspondent gathered that the suspect had been transferred to SCIID.
