The new Port Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority, Port Harcourt, Engr. Yunusa Ibrahim says he is yet to encounter any security threats since taking over management of the agency.

He also said that most importers that patronise the Port Harcourt Sea Ports are westerners.

Ibrahim also praised members of the Rivers State Energy and Maritime Reporters for their dedication and accurate reportage.

The group received the encomium when they paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Port Authority’s Port Manager in his office at the NPA premises.

The Rivers State EMR chairman, Martins Giadom said the courtesy visit to the office of the new NPA boss will afford the body the opportunity to deepen her relationship with the new Port Management in its new drive to reposition the Rivers Port along with other eastern Ports.

The EMR chairman pointed out that over the decade, the maritime and energy economy has been under general reporting without a dedicated crop of journalists who focus on the maritime, oil & gas and energy sectors, adding that “this has led to scanty attention to issues concerning the ports, oil & gas, energy and other businesses”

“This led to the birth of the Energy and Maritime Reporters (EMR) who are focused on providing media content to grow the mainstay of Nigeria’s economy through a robust media engagement that is deep, constructive and beyond merely social media commentary”

“We know that the present focus in the maritime industry is the determination of the private sector in the East, to see that Ports in the region, especially Rivers Port are back to full viability”

“We have followed the outcry of trade groups such as MAN, PHCCIMA, REIF etc, to call for the attention to the Rivers Port. We hope this matter will be given the attention it deserves both here and at the National Headquarters”

“Our role, therefore, is to monitor and report this process and to give dedicated media attention to all maritime, oil and gas issues in the region”

“We will welcome the support of the Rivers Port Complex as we assure you of our support in media campaigns to beam attention to the steps taken to revive the Ports”

Ibrahim commended members of the Rivers State Energy and Maritime Reporters for the visit.

He said: “journalists are the eyes and the ears of the masses to have good interrelationships with government agencies. And what the masses want is for you to protect their interest which you have been doing.

“Another good thing is that EMR is taking care of the cardinal, the main Dane of Nigerians economy and that is the oil & gas and maritime industry”

Engr. Yunusa Ibrahim urger members of the Rivers EMR to be factual in their reportage. He said a factual report will beam the image of the Rivers State NPA, and it will also encourage clients both within and outside the country to patronise the Port Harcourt Sea Port.

He commended the Rivers State governor for the present conducive state of security in Rivers State.
