Police avert bloodbath in Etche over PDP delegate election

There was pandemonium in Etche on Sunday night as Youths of the Etche chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party blocked the busy Chokocho – Igwuruta road at about 7:45 pm over what they described as the hijacking of delegate election materials by established politicians from the area.

The youths who spoke to theportcitynews at the scene claimed that the member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Chief Jerome Eke and the local government chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Obinna Anyawu hijacked the materials to foist their prefered candidates.

Some of the angry youths who were said to be loyal to the commissioner for youths and productivity, Ephraim Nwuzi, were furious over the attitude of Eke for not allowing democracy to take its full course.

Theportcitynews gathered that some House of Assembly aspirants under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Chief Ephraim Nwuzi were present at the scene with their supporters who were also fingered in the unrest.

Theportcitynews also gathered that the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Etche quickly mobilized to foil what would have turned into a bloodbath as policemen shot in the air to disrupt the unrest.
