Asalgans received financial empowerment ahead of Oct 5 LG election

Some indigenes of Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State have benefited from a financial empowerment which was initiated by the Orolosama Amachree-led caretaker committee on Monday in Buguma, the traditional headquarters of the LGA.

The empowerment put smiles on the faces of the indigenes who went home with cash gift ranging from N2 million to N200K each.

Representing the state government, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Victor Oko Jumbo urged the people of the LGA to keep giving their support to the administration of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Oko Jumbo assured the people of the area of Fubara’s commitment in prioritizing the security and welfare of all Rivers people in respective of their political divides.

On his part, the ASALGA council boss, Orolosama Amachree said the empowerment is in line with the directive of the governor on the council, adding that the empowerment is in phases.

He enjoined the people to work with his administration in supporting the vision of the governor, promising those who did not receive the cash that they would benefit in the subsequent batches of empowerment.

Speaking on the sideline, a retired officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Tom George who hails from the LGA commended the security architecture put in place by the Edi-Abali of Kalabari Kingdom, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo Asari.

Tom George said the empowerment exercise was hitch free as all plans to disrupt the exercise by political hoodlums were averted.

Facts check had it that the empowerment may not have been unconnected with the forthcoming local government election slated for October 5.
