Supporters of a former National Assembly lawmaker, Senator Magnus Abe have assured the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi that Tonye Cole will lose the forthcoming APC guber primary in Rivers State.

Tonye Cole was part of the 2019 guber race in the state but was disqualified from contesting the general election when a federal high court ordered INEC to remove APC from the state ballot.

Cole again had emerged as the consensus aspirant among the aspirants loyal to Amaechi who are hoping to be the state 2023 governor.

The idea of a consensus aspirant from the camp of Amaechi may not have been unconnected with an attempt by the minister to make sure that Abe does not clinch the party’s 2023 guber ticket.

In a chat with our correspondent, the President-General, Rivers Boys for Freedom, Dominic Dumekpigi described Amaechi as an autocratic leader that does not learn from his past mistakes.

“You recall that it was this same Amaechi’s bad politics of imposing candidates on the APC that made the party to lose the 2015 and 2019 state elections.

“He (Amaechi) has come again to repeat same mistake of the past and I can assure the transport minister that his preferred aspirant, Tonye Cole will lose again.

“We, the supporters of Abe have mass political movement across the 23 LGAs of the state and we will mobilise massively to ensure that only Abe gets the party’s guber ticket.

“Major party stakeholders are strongly behind Abe who are ready to stop Amaechi’s high-handedness in the party by all means.” Dumekpigi said.

The group also accused Amaechi of turning the state APC into a social club, adding that Abe remains the aspirant that can win the general election.
