Wike-Loyal Rivers Assembly Members Give Fubara 7-Day Deadline to Re-submit 2024 Budget

The Faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, led by the Incumbent speaker of the 10th House of Assembly Martin Amaewhule, has handed a seven-day ultimatum to Governor Simunialayi Fubara, to Re-submit the 2024 budget to the House.

The Recently legitimized members of the state Assembly took the stand at its resumed sitting at the official State of Assembly Quarters on Aba Road on Monday.

It bears mentioning that Fubara had earlier presented, for the 2024 fiscal year, an appropriation bill of about N800 billion to the faction of the House of Assembly that kissed his ring, then led by Edison Ehie as speaker.

It is also important to remember how a Rivers state high court passed an order that stopped Pro-Wike legislators like Amaewhule from acting as one, only for the order to be repealed by the Appeal Court in Abuja.

During the mid hours of Monday, Amaewhule who presided over the plenary session, which would be the first one since the Appeal court’s ruling, issued the ultimatum. This came following a motion by the Deputy Speaker of the Assembly.

Amaewhule then put the motion to vote, leading to the resolution agreed upon by the fully constituted members of the plenary session.

The Pro-Wike Lawmakers also resolved to communicate their decision to the Rivers state Governor through a letter.

Nonetheless, the Hon Victor Oko-Jumbo-led assembly loyal to the sitting Governor held a parallel sitting wherein Emmanuel Frank-Fubara, the new commissioner nominee who appeared before the state executive council for screening and confirmation, was screened and confirmed for possible swearing.
