The Port Harcourt Local Government Area Security Watch, known as PHALGA security, in conjunction with Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch and Azikiwe Police Division, has arrested about twelve internet fraudsters who allegedly buried a newborn baby alive at Andoni waterfront in Eagle Island, Port-Harcourt on Wednesday, 23 August 2023.

In an interview with our Correspondent, Victor Ohaji aka Man of God, the Chairman of PHALGA security watch who doubles as the Chief Security Officer of Eagle Island, disclosed that he got intelligence that some ‘yahoo yahoo’ boys were doing incantation at the waterfront.

According to him, he immediately mobilized his men and on getting to the waterfront, the ‘yahoo’ boys left, noting that on close observation they discovered the suspected ‘yahoo’ boys buried something at the waterfront.

He explained that on digging the ground, a newborn baby boy was exhumed from the place, adding the baby was already dead at the time he was exhumed.

The Vigilante Chief said he alerted the Rivers State Neighbourhood Watch and the Station Officer of the Police post at Eagle Island who informed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Azikiwe Police Division.

He said the PHALGA Security Watch, Rivers State Neighbourhood, and the Police mobilized and went in search of the suspects.

He said while they were combing Eagle Island, the suspects who were coming out from one hotel saw them and ran in a different direction and the joint security force was able to apprehend a good number of them who were taken to Azikiwe Police Division, Illoabuchi, Mile 2 Diobu.

The Commander of the PHALGA security watch called on the Rivers State Government to assist them with logistics like operational vehicles for efficiency.

Meanwhile, a Human Rights Advocate advocate, Prince Wiro, has condemned the burying of a newborn baby by the suspected fraudster.

Wiro who is the National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign described the incident as the height of wickedness and man’s inhumanity to man.

He commended the security operatives for the achievement and called on the Police to spread their investigation to arrest fleeing suspects and ensure justice is done on the matter.

The Spokesperson for Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, has confirmed the incident while stating that the investigation is ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department Port Harcourt.
