Ogoni: 80 cultists surrender rifles, vow on oath never to kill again

Brave Dickson

More than 80 notorious cultists have surrendered their illegally possessed rifles to the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The cultists who hail from an Ogoni community known as Kaani One in the Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State had for a long time fled their community to sojourn in Okrika communities.

The cultists who named their groups as Iceland and New Jerusalem were reported to have surrendered AK47, pump-action and other locally made rifles and handguns.

When contacted, the paramount ruler of the community, His Royal Highness, Saturday Ndinee told our correspondent that since 2004 the cultists started killing in his community that over 30 innocent and non innocent persons had lost their lives.

He said, “the cultists have agreed to return home and live in peace, pledging never to kill or cause trouble again in the community.

“They have surrendered their rifles to the police and the DSS.

“They have been placed on traditional oath and the security agents have given them a form to fill with their passport on it.”

The paramount ruler also insisted that any cultist who refuses to take the oath and fill the form will not be allowed into his community.
