Rotary commences tree planting to fight Climate Change

In its bid to create awareness for Climate Change, the Rotary Club Port Harcourt GRA has embarked on tree planting to boost green environment.

The President of Rotary Club Port Harcourt GRA, Rotr.Veronique Tabai during a tree planting exercise at the State School Elekahia said the tree planting is part of Rotary vision to support the environment.

Tabai said the trees will enable the pupils to breathe good air in the school.

”Obviously, Rotary care about the world, Rotary cares about the environment, we have just even approved a new area of focus in Rotary which is called ‘Supporting the Environment’. So this project is directly in line with that emphasis to continue to support our environment through planting trees and of course other activities that support our environment and planet earth” she said.

The Former Assistant Governor of Rotary Club District 9141, Rotr. Arthur Kalagbor said the tree planting exercise is Rotary’s way of supporting government’s effort in infrastructural development in the state.

Kalagbor said the tree planting will also beautiful the school and its environs.

”You can see that this compound has received a lot of attention from the State Government. We are here to complement the efforts of the Rivers State Government by beautifying it. There is a need for this compound to have trees, so we choose this school because it’s going to help in lifting the outlook of this school. Secondly, we hope by coming here we could pass on a lesson to pupils in this school to learn to care for the environment” he noted.

In her response, the Head Teacher of State School Elekahia, Mrs. Maureen Ejekwu commended Rotary Club for the gesture.

Maureen Ejekwu said the trees will beautify the environment as well as purify the air.

She assured the Rotary Club that the school management will maintain the trees.
