A prominent Chief in Alode Eleme, High Chief Obo Obaa has reiterated his support for the selection of King Philip Obele JP as the Oneh Eh Eleme XI.
Obo stated that as Aleto Clan head and Oneh eh Nchia, P. O Obele is the most qualified for the throne of the King of Eleme Kingdom after the demise of Late King S.O Ejire.
The High Chief stressed that the selection which by the custom of the Eleme people is done at Echieta Nchia is the sacred and exclusive right of only Traditional Rulers of the 10 clans of Eleme, who also represent the 10 Sons of Eleme, ELEME newsroom reports.
Chief Obo said due to civilization, the bylaw only permits 5 members of the Ogbo Nkporon (Elders) to serve as observers during the process.
According to him: “If wealth was a yardstick for leadership, Dangote would have been President instead of Buhari. Meanwhile, Yam titles in Eleme, though not also criteria for Kingship in Eleme, are not gotten from trailer loads of yam from Lafia market, but from your yam barns in Eleme farmlands.
“If your wife can not even perform the Ndele traditional rights and you cannot, as an individual pour libation at your family shrines, you shouldn’t even nurse this ambitions.
“Only TRUE Sons of Great Eleme will rule Eleme. That is the ancient tradition passed down to us. We can not change it because of politics, wealth and popularity”. he said.
