Commercial Taxi Drivers Warn Rivers State Gov’t Over Ban

Commercial vehicle drivers under the auspices of Drivers Welfare Association of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, have again warned the state government to act fast by lifting the ban on commercially painted vehicles from operating in some restricted areas.

Theportcitynews reported that the state ministry of transportation banned taxis not painted in the state’s official blue and white colour from operating in areas like the premises of the state secretariat complex.

According to the state chairman of the association, Leekia Isaac, “we made several demands to the state government to look into it first or else we will embark on a statewide protest to ensure that no commercial vehicle operates in the state.

“Though the state government through its ministry of transport has met the waiver demand and the demand to reduce the cost of painting commercial vehicles.

“We also demanded the building of more motor parks by the state government and the unification of government stickers for our members which have not yet been met by the ministry of transport.”

He added that commercial drivers are running out of patience over the delay on the part of the government to fulfil the remaining demands.
