The victims of this year’s flood in Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State have accused their council Chairman, Hope Ikiriko for causing the flood that destroyed lives and property in the area.
One of the victims and youth leader of Igbu-Ugbobi Clan in the LGA, Ajasin Vincent told our correspondent that the flood wouldn’t have occurred in his area if his council chairman was proactive enough to heed the early warnings of NiMet and NEMA.
Vincent maintained that if the LG chairman was proactive in line with the early warnings of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency and the National Emergency Management Agency, the flood wouldn’t have happened in Ahoada West.
The youth leader accused the LG chairman of only playing reactive role after the flood had occurred, insisting that the council boss should be blamed for the flood.
Vincent also condemned the alleged inadequate handling of the N1billion relief package donated by Governor Nyesom Wike for those who were internally displaced by the flood in the area.
He said: “The IDP camp in Edeoho Community in the neighbouring Ahoada East LGA where victims from my community took refuge were fed for only three days.
“When we called our LG chairman over the food shortage in the camp, our chairman told us that money has finished, adding that there was nothing he could do about it.”
