A stalwart of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Rivers State, Vincent Ajasin has said that the over zealous presidential ambition of former Governor Nyesom Wike will cause him to fight President Bola Tinubu in the future.
The party chieftain said this hours after Tinubu forwarded the names of Wike and 27 others to the senate for ministerial screening and confirmation.
Ajasin said, in as much as the president wants to compensate Wike with a ministerial appointment over the role he played in the February 25 presidential election, Tinubu should be very careful with him.
“Wike has over zealous ambition of becoming a president, it was this ambition that made him not to respect his party (PDP) and he went all out to fight against his party’s presidential candidate because he felt his party has blocked his chance of contesting the 2023 general election.
“I will urge Tinubu to be careful with Wike, because same way he fought against Atiku, he can still fight against Tinubu in the future,” he said.
Wike was said to have found favour in the sight of Tinubu, when he lost the 2023 PDP presidential ticket to Atiku Abubakar and refused to support his party’s presidential candidate.
Wike and other members of his party whom some were governors at the time, formed the G-5 and made sure that Atiku did not win in Rivers, Oyo, Enugu, Abia, and Benue states where the G-5 governors hail from.
In Rivers, Wike’s obvious rancour with the PDP presidential campaign council led to the cancellation of the party’s presidential campaign rally in the state.
2023 became the first time since 1999 that PDP did not win presidential election in Rivers State, which Wike was very proud of as he had either wanted Tinubu or Peter Obi to win in his state.
Tinubu eventually won in Rivers and saw the need to reward Wike with a ministerial appointment.
