The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Nyesom Wike on Physically Challenged Matters, Hon. Itekena Altraide has resigned his appointment.
His resignation was contained in a letter dated November 26, 2019, which he personally signed and addressed to the governor through the office of the Secretary to the State Government.
A copy of the letter, Hon Altraide made available to our correspondent accused the former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani and former Commissioner of Social Welfare & Rehabilitation, Herbert Miller of not being happy with his appointment as they preferred one Mr Kie Obomanu to him.

The letter which chronicled Hon Altraide’s reasons for resigning reads in part: “That my appointment as SSA on Physically Challenged Matters on June 2016 by His Excellency did not go down well with Chief Kenneth Kobani and Hon Herbert Miller who urged me to step aside for Mr Obomanu.
“For the entire period I served as SSA, my office was not given overhead amidst a series of my appeals. Yet I pay five staff working with me, a total of N140 000 monthly from my N328,000 salary.

“It was very impossible for me to take more than N100,000 home every month as salary. This was because my community of persons with disabilities sees me as a solution to their peculiar needs.
“Surprisingly, my inability to pay salary for the months of July and August 2019 led to the death of my dad in September 2019 because I could not afford his medical bills.
“Sincerely, I delayed my resignation all these while because I needed to secure the confirmation of my employment into the Rivers State Civil Service, and maybe in anticipation that things would get better not until the death of my father.”
Hon Altraide also used the medium to thank the governor for the privilege he gave him to serve as SSA on Physically Challenged Matters in his administration, saying that it was a life-transforming working experience.
