Wike visits Atiku amid PDP’s search for ‘acceptable’ Southern running mate

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy visit to Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 general elections at his home in Abuja.

This is coming 48 hours after Atiku visited Wike on Monday, following his emergence as the party’s candidate at its presidential primaries on Saturday.

In the meeting on Monday, Chairman, PDP Board of Trustees, Walid Jibrin, said, the BoT will assist the party and Atiku to choose “a very acceptable Vice President from southern Nigeria.”

Sharing details of yesterday’s visit via his social media page, Atiku said, “It was a pleasure to receive His Excellency Nyesom Wike in the company of notable leaders and officials of our great party, the PDP, at my residence today. I am proud of the promises that this spirit of camaraderie holds for our party as a united front that guarantees victory in the next election to rescue the country.”

The former vice president, who had earlier received the party’s Certificate of Return at the PDP National Secretariat at the Wadata Plaza in Abuja, solicited the support of his party men to defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress in next year’s election.

Recall that Atiku had emerged as the party’s preferred candidate after he polled 371 votes to defeat his opponents including his closest contender, Wike, who got 237 votes.
