A 28-year-old woman and mother of three, Clara Itigwe, has accused her mother-in-law, Ngozi Itigwe, of illegally seizing her late husband’s property.

Clara alleges that after her husband’s death, her mother-in-law took control of his share of the property and instructed her to remarry.

According to Clara, her husband died last year in August 2023 and was buried in September 2023, stressing that she was lawfully married to her husband until his death.

In an interview with our Correspondent, Clara Itigwe disclosed that her late husband is from Ahoada West LGA in Rivers State.

“My name is Clara Itigwe, my mother-in-law claimed my husband’s property. Before my husband died they shared the property, she has her own, and my husband has his own.

“So after my husband died, she denied me of accessing those properties, she even went to my husband’s tenant and told them not to pay rent to me. She was collecting the rent and asked them not to pay me the rent.

“I have three children, we are struggling to survive and she is collecting the rent, telling me that I should carry my children, pack my things, and go that I am no longer part of the family. This is the issue.

“I really need help, I want the Government to come to my aid and bring a fair judgment to this kind of case because I do not really know how to go about it again. I have tried to make peace with her, but she insisted I must leave that I am no longer part of the family that my husband is dead”.

When contacted by our reporter, Ngozi Itigwe denied any wrongdoing.

Ngozi Itigwe claimed that Clara had divorced her husband before his death and that it was she Ngozi who called Clara to come when the husband was sick and it was not up to three to four days after Ngozi came that the husband died.

Ngozi Itigwe said the case is with the family of the late husband of Clara who had asked Clara to come with her people and to this date, Clara’s people are yet to make that visit.

She also denied seizing any property from Clara.
