…As Peter Obi apologises

The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, has visited the governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the State, Beatrice Itubo who is currently recovering from a knee injury.
TPCN learnt that the LP governorship flag bearer sustained the knee injury while planning for her party’s campaign in Port Harcourt recently.
According to sources, she was almost overworking herself before having something close to a dislocation and muscle strain.
The Rivers APC governorship candidate, Tonye Cole, visited Itubo with some of his party’s stakeholders on Friday and wished her a quick recovery.
Responding to Tonye Cole’s kind gesture, Mrs Itubo thanked him for coming to see her despite being a guber candidate of another party who ordinarily is supposed to be her opponent in the forthcoming 2023 governorship election.
Ironically, Tonye Cole’s visit came a day after the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi visited Rivers State to commission a project on the invitation of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. Obi left without seeing Itubor.
However, he apologised to Itubo over his failure to visit her, saying he was not informed of her ailment. He wished her a quick recovery.
Meanwhile, some members of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State are claiming that the APC governorship candidate Tonye Cole’s visit to Beatrice Itubo was to score a political goal.
Reacting to the visit on Saturday, one of the PDP members from Opobo-Nkoro LGA, Brown Prince, said: “Tonye Cole’s visit to Itubo is mere politics, and he wants to score a cheap political goal. If not, why did he wait till after Peter Obi came and left before visiting the woman? Why didn’t he visit her before Obi came to Rivers? Will he say he didn’t hear about her sickness when he was here in Port Harcourt?
“He only wants to show that he is for everybody, but they can’t deceive Rivers people. Rivers people are for Sim and PDP.”
