Rivers State Police Command has responded to allegations made by Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, regarding the presence of police officers at the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) office during preparations for the Local Government Elections.

Governor Fubara had claimed that police officers were at the RSIEC to remove sensitive electoral materials.
In a statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, clarified that officers from the Rivers State Government House were initially deployed to RSIEC but were withdrawn following a Federal High Court ruling on September 30, 2024, which barred police involvement in the elections.
The police emphasized that their subsequent deployment was in response to credible intelligence about a planned arson attack by hoodlums on the RSIEC premises. The officers were sent to secure the area to prevent any potential damage.
The Rivers State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order during the election period and urged residents to act within the law.
The command assured the public that it would take all necessary steps to ensure the security and safety of the electoral process.
