The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Rivers State Command, has disassociated itself from an attack at Angulu-Ama Creek in Asari Toru local government area.

The incident occurred at about 5pm 30th May, 2021.

In a press statement signed by the Assistant Commandant, Oguntuase Michael of the Rivers Command, the command stated that the attack which caused five persons to sustain severe injuries, and one person still missing while another one dead was launched by unknown gunmen who were dressed in NSCDC Uniforms.

The statement explained that the unknown gunmen suspected to be dressed NSCDC Uniform, boarded in 3 boats, (200 horsepower) approached the Creek and opened fire on innocent citizens of the area.

The statement further dismissed the accusations from some quarters that the attackers were Civil Defence Personnel while disclaiming that the Command does not have any boat with such engine capacity nor has it carried out any recent surveillance operations in the area.

The statement however maintained that the attack has got no link to the NSCDC, therefore the general public should disregard such insinuations and claims and to see it as misleading and untrue.
