Police officer kills father of three in Rivers over argument

The Father of 43-year-old Evidence Chukwuka Monye, who was shot dead by a man in Police Uniform at the Rumuokoro flyover on Saturday, April 1, 2023, has called on the Police to get to the root of the matter.

John Monye, in an interview, said he was called by someone through his Son’s phone number last Saturday informing him that his Son had been shot dead by a man on a Police uniform.

The Father of the deceased lamented that his Son Evidence Chukwuka Monye, a graduate of Bauchi State Polytechnic and a Master’s degree holder, is not a cultist, neither is he a trouble maker, and he never heard his Son caused any trouble till his death.

He called on the Police Authority to look into the killing of his Son, who is married and a father of three children.

Meanwhile, an eyewitness who declined to be on record told our Correspondent who visited the scene that the deceased was shot by a man on a Police uniform over an argument.

The eyewitnesses claimed the man in a Police Uniform who was in a vehicle ran away after shooting Chukwuka while the ones in the vehicle sped off.

According to the witness, his corpse was put in a wheelbarrow and was taken to the Rumudomaya Special Area (Rumuokoro) Police station, where the Police dispersed the crowd, and his corpse was abandoned close to the station.

The spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident. She said unknown gunmen shot the deceased in a Police uniform.

She added that the matter has been transferred to State CIID while the investigation is ongoing.

Meanwhile Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign has called for a thorough investigation into the incident. The Chairman of the organization in Rivers State, Barrister IK Alexandre, said the Police should conduct thorough research to unmask the identities of the killers to bring the perpetrators to justice.
